Attention High School students! We have an exciting opportunity for you! From learning about medical assessments, back-boarding, splinting, and basic trauma management, we train on all aspects of Emergency Medical care. Each explorer meeting has instructional and hands on portions that help get the students ready to take an Emergency Medical Technician course. These instructional classes are also very valuable to give insight into the medical field for those interested pursuing it in the future.
In addition to hands on training, a large part of our group meetings are focused on leadership development. Our explorers learn problem solving skills for tough situations and we go through different ways to interact with people when they are sick or injured. During our joint training opportunities, they work as a team to compete against other explorer groups to utilize the skills that they have learned.
There is no experience necessary to join our Explorer group. We are always accepting new applicants who have completed the 8th grade and who are at least 14 years old. We meet at the Chili Volunteer Ambulance headquarters on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. Our training events usually last from 7:00pm until 9:00 pm. Parents are welcome to sit through any of our meetings or to join as regular members themselves! We also try to plan in some off site activities such as tours of the 911 center or visiting medical related places around the community.
